disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•"They’re taking Shirly": An Army sergeant thought his family as safe. Then ICE deported his wife.4·2 days agoI wasn’t debating you, dumbass. I was substantiating why more people aren’t committing violence against ICE, and why it’s important it stays that way.
You’re right. No one reads.

disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•"They’re taking Shirly": An Army sergeant thought his family as safe. Then ICE deported his wife.41·2 days agoI’m fully aware of your personal disclosure. That’s why I wrote “people” and not “you.” I was answering your question. Are you always condescending when you don’t understand the context of a reply?
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•"They’re taking Shirly": An Army sergeant thought his family as safe. Then ICE deported his wife.49·2 days agonot that I’m encouraging it but I’m kind of surprised that there hasn’t been more violent attacks on ice officers
My comment is condemning the violence mentioned above, regardless of motive.
Violent response vilifies the citizen against the officer ‘doing their job.’ That is leveraged to strengthen laws that protect officers, used as more propaganda to grow support for the right, and costs us another resister to incarceration.
People need to stop suggesting response with emotion and read history. Small scale resistance against fascism has never been successful.

disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•American attitudes about AI today mirror poll answers about the rise of the internet in the '90sEnglish1·2 days agoThe media is very predictable for sure. They put on the rose-colored glasses for the pro argument, and sensationalize the worst fears for the con. Historically, the truth lands in the middle.
Unlike the topic of immigration, with the massive wealth inequality of today, anything benefiting corporations over the working class is far more likely to work out in their favor.
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•American attitudes about AI today mirror poll answers about the rise of the internet in the '90sEnglish6·2 days agoThat’s intentional. They sensationalize to desensitize. Unlike the introduction of computers or the internet, AI will absolutely take far more jobs than it will create. Goldman Sachs predicts a 50% reduction in US jobs by 2045, and Republicans added a provision into the budget reconciliation that prohibits any regulation on AI for a decade, to ensure that prosperity goes to the corporations.

They swore to defend the Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic. If we are non-violent, we are not a domestic threat. As per The Constitution, the soverign (highest rank in the nation) of the United States are We The People.
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Troops and marines deeply troubled by LA deployment: ‘Morale is not great’522·8 days agoThat’s why it’s essential we keep it peaceful while we increase our numbers. If we are non-violent, we cannot be determined to be a domestic threat, and it’s the military’s duty to protect us.
I’ve been there. You have no idea what it means to us that an escalation was actually done because of the unusual complexity of the issue and not because of missed steps taken by the lower tiers. That’s the entire reason we love that job. Solving complex puzzles that don’t make it into the guide is exhilarating. I just hope they escalated final notes to engineering as per protocol. Lol

I’m saying not to incite violence because it will reduce numbers to incarceration and fear of unsafe protest conditions, while providing the footage they need to call us ‘domestic terrorists.’
Damn. I saw someone had posed this on Substack in response to the Canadian LGBTQ+ hotline misinformation, so I was excited to share it for people who may need it. Thanks for the correction.
